A District of Columbia teenager is wanted in a weekend crash that killed two people in Capitol Heights.

Eighteen-year-old Ronald Jerome Hayes Jr., of Southeast Washington, is charged with vehicular manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, theft and traffic charges.

According to Prince George’s County Police, at about 11 a.m. Saturday, Hayes was behind the wheel of a vehicle that had left the site of a shooting in the 7000 block of Walker Mill Road.

Patrol officers tried to pull over the car, but Hyes drove off at a high rate of speed, and he was able to pull away from the officers, police said. The suspect turned off his headlights to avoid detection by police, and sped into the intersection of Shady Glen Drive and Central Avenue where the car slammed into a van.

Six people were inside the van, including two children. The driver, Brittney Everett, 23, of Southeast Washington, and a passenger, Brittney Queen, of Capitol Heights, died at the crash. Four others were taken to a hospital.

Hayes fled the scene and was found hiding a short time later. The car he had been driving had been stolen.

Hayes was taken to a hospital and fled after he was released. There is a cash reward for information leading to Hayes’ arrest and indictment.
