Woman found dead inside Springfield home; husband charged with obstruction

Fairfax County police are investigating a suspicious death of a woman at her Springfield area home, and have charged her husband with obstruction of justice.

According to a law enforcement official, police received a call of shots fired from a family member at the 7100 block of Healy Drive at around 6 p.m., Wednesday.

Fairfax County police arrived at the residence, but no one answered the door. Police saw movement coming from inside the residence and made several phone calls to the home, but no one answered, police said.

At about 9 p.m.,  officers entered the home and found a woman dead with a gunshot wound. She was identified as Serena Hansken-Vierimaa, 41.

Police also found the husband, 41, Aaron Vierimaa, inside the home. He was not injured.

Police do not know why he did not respond to police calls to the house.

He was charged with obstruction of justice. The investigation is continuing. The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
