Two injured in flash fire at University of Maryland

Two people were injured in a flash fire on the roof of a dormitory at the University of Maryland in College Park Monday morning, according to Prince George’s County Fire Department officials.

The two injured were members of campus staff, who were working on an heating and air conditioning unit on top of Oakland Hall, according to fire department spokesman Mark Brady. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Monday.

Brady reported that injuries to one of the workers were serious, but not life-threatening. That person was reportedly transported to an area trauma center.

Oakland Hall is a nine-story dormitory unit located in north campus. UMD students are on winter break until Jan. 27.
