Construction worker killed on Suitland Parkway is identified

A construction worker was killed when an SUV crashed on the Suitland Parkway in southeast Washington late Wednesday.

The worker has been identified as 35-year-old Travis Jackson, of Alexandria.

Police said workers were setting up a construction zone near Stanton Road shortly before midnight Wednesday when an oncoming 2002 BMW X5 lost control and struck a parked truck and trailer. The impact cased the trailer to rotate and strike Jackson. He died at the scene.

The driver of the BMW was taken to a hospital where she was later released.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information about this case to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s text tip line by text messaging 50411.
