District woman sentenced for shooting man at IHOP

A District woman was sentenced to more than 6 years for shooting a man at an IHOP restaurant in Columbia Heights.
Lashawn Carson, 26, was found guilty by a D.C. jury in October of aggravated assault while armed and related firearms offenses.
According to the government’s evidence, at 5:30 a.m. on March 11, 2012, Carson and friends were eating at the IHOP in the 3100 block of 14th Street NW.
A man attempted to squeeze by Carson and accidently bumped into her.
A fight ensued, and an off-duty police detective, who was seated nearby, jumped up to break it up.
At that point, Carson walked over, adjusted her hair, pulled out a firearm and shot the victim once in the chest.
