D.C. police officer accused of taking nude photos of runaway girl

A D.C. police officer was arrested Monday for taking nude pictures of a 15-year-old runaway girl after she had returned home, according to charging documents.D.C. police logo

Officer Marc Washington, who had been assigned to patrol the 7th District in Southeast Washington, was charged with production of child pornography.

“To learn of an allegation of this kind against a person who is sworn to protect our children, it is both shocking and disturbing,” Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said in the statement. “We are fortunate that someone came forward to alert us of this behavior to ensure that we prevent future victims.”

According to charging papers, on Saturday, Washington responded to a complaint a mother who said she had not seen her daughter in two days. Washington took a report.

When the teenage girl returned home on at about 1 p.m. Sunday, the mother called 911 to let police know and asked that her daughter be taken off the missing persons list.

Almost 12 hours later, shortly before midnight, Washington went to the girl’s home and asked to speak to the teenager privately in her bedroom as part of the investigation, police said. The girl and Washington had never met before, the report said.

Washington took out his camera and asked the 15-year-old to take off her tank top and bra, saying he need to take pictures of any injuries, police said. When the girl replied that she didn’t have any injuries, Washington told her it was police procedure.

He then took close up photos of her breasts and told her the girl she needed to take off her shorts and underwear to take pictures of her tattoos for identification purposes, police said.

After Washington left, the girl told her mother what had happened. The mother called 911 and the dispatcher sent out a message to district officers, including Washington, reporting the incident.

Police pulled Washington over and found the camera. Investigators recovered nine deleted photos of the naked girl, charging papers said.

They also found numerous pictures of individuals, including deleted photos of what appeared to two nude minors.

The department is investigating whether the officer may have been involved in similar offenses.
