Amy Fisher, dubbed the “Long Island Lolita,” shot the wife of Joey Buttafuoco in the early 1990s. Both went to jail

On this day, Nov. 15, in 1993, a New York judge sentenced Joey Buttafuoco to six months in jail for the statutory rape of Amy Fisher, the teenage seductress who shot Buttafuoco’s wife in the face.

The sordid events caused a media sensation, and both Buttafucoco and Fisher later capitalized on their mini-celebrity status.

Joey Buttafuoco began his affair with Fisher after she took her car to his auto shop for repairs. She was 16.

On May 19, 1992, Fisher, then aged 17, had an accomplice drive her to the Buttafuoco home in Massapequa, N.Y. When Mary Jo Buttafuoco answered the door, Fisher told her that her husband, Joey, was having an affair with Fisher’s younger sister. When Buttafuoco turned away, excusing herself, Fisher shot her in the head, then fled.

Buttafuoco was severely injured and paralyzed on the right side of her face, but survived. She was able to describe the shooting. Joey Buttafuoco realized the shooter was Fisher and identified her to the police.

Tabloids christened Fisher the “Long Island Lolita.” Fisher served six years in prison and later got into the porn business. She also became a writer, authoring two books and becoming a columnist for the Long Island Press.

Joey Buttafuoco has been charged with numerous crimes since, including solicitation of prostitute, insurance fraud and felon in possession of ammunition.
